Arctic Birds - Grimsey

Grimsey - Iceland

8 Day Workshop "Art of Puffin Photography" and other Arctic Birds.

An 8-day tour to photograph the puffins on Grimsey island, a.k.a «The pearl of the North», a small island one million birds call their summer home.

Located exactly on the Arctic circle, Grimsey hosts one of the biggest colonies of Atlantic puffins in the world, with around 250.000 individuals. They are all pretty easily accessible and perfect models to learn and practice artistic photography techniques such as backlight, silhouettes, blurs, bokeh and flares.

We will practice the techniques on puffins but may also apply them to other species such as razorbills, arctic terns, guillemots or waders.

The end of June is the most active period for the birds to display, nest and start feeding youngs.
