In February 2023 and 2024 i participated in 2 trips to Hornstrandir National Park in the Westfjords as far north you can travel in Iceland. Its only accessable by boat, and you have to sail a couple of hours before you reach Kviar which is what the ancient farm house is called. You offload you gear and bags into a Zodiac, head for land and offload again. The house is located in the mountains with the most spectacular view of the fjord and the partly snow covered mountains. The following 6 days I got the opportunity to watch and observe the foxes look for food at low tide, rest in between meals, and mark their territory. I photographed them when they were close to me because they are curious animals, but also from a distance when they walk or run up or down from the mountains.
If you wanna learn more about the Arctic Foxes i would encourage you to head over to my web shop and pick up a copy of a book that I helped fund the production of. The book is meant to give people insights to the foxes life and challenges in Iceland. In Iceland the foxes can be hunted all year round except in protected areas like Hornstrandir, and both the state and local municipalities pay hunters to kill the foxes. So, by supporting the book it’s my goal to help highlight this and educate as many people possible on why it’s important to help the foxes survive.
You can buy the book here "MELRAKKI - The Surviving Arctic Fox"
